Military and First Responder Realism

So recently I started a book from the Kindle Sharing Library. Amazon recommended the book with a four and a half star rating from about six hundred people.

The first two chapters were utter garbage with regards to realism.

Mainly the author wrote about a highly intelligent scientist who discovered time travel. A security team then abducted the scientist.
The dialogue was not just contrived, but seemed to be written by a person who watched way too many episodes of the unit.

This rant makes me wonder, how many people hire an editor with military or first responder training before actually publishing their books?

Do civilians really see the military types as two-dimensional jarheads without any sense of propriety or diction?

Anyway, I can't continue the book due to the crap spewed on the first pages.

I hope other Service Members have better luck than I, because I bet the story is great.
